Meet DJ DST (Derek)
Hey There! My name is Derek! Let me tell you a bit about myself!
My journey into DJing started early. At just 12 years old, I began running “Jelly Bean” dances with my local youth council. That’s where I first discovered how powerful music can be — bringing people together, creating energy, and turning a simple event into something memorable.
From there, I moved on to DJing Teen Night events in Calgary, gaining experience reading younger crowds and learning how to keep a dance floor moving. As my passion grew, I had the opportunity to work with Monarch Music, followed by MuchMusic Video Dances, where I continued developing my style and expanding my experience across a wide variety of events.
Eventually, I set out on my own adventure, building DJ DST and focusing on delivering personalized, high-energy experiences. Since then, I’ve DJ’d charity fundraisers, nightclubs, weddings, and private events across Calgary, throughout Alberta and BC, and even internationally — including providing services for a wedding in London, England.
Today, my goal is simple: create unforgettable experiences, keep dance floors packed, and make every event feel seamless from start to finish.

It's More Than Music, It's The experience!
One event that really stands out to me was a wedding where the bride’s father became ill and had to leave for the hospital partway through the day. Thankfully, we had already completed most of the formalities, including the scheduled dances, and the reception continued while everyone hoped for good news.
Later in the evening, her father was discharged and made it back just before the night wrapped up. Without hesitation, we paused everything and recreated the father-daughter dance so they could still share that special moment together. The room immediately filled with emotion, and it became one of the most meaningful highlights of the entire day.
Being able to adapt in real time and make sure that moment wasn’t lost meant everything. It turned what could have been a missed memory into something unforgettable — and helped make their day feel complete.
